Making Waves Project

September 2022 till present

The twenty-first century presents a unique epoch in the history of biodiversity. Struggling with climate change, the ensuing instabilities in the biosphere have caused disruptions in the lifestyles of multiple species and destroyed the symbiotic relationships that organic forms require for their sustenance. Marine ecosystems find themselves in especially precarious conditions as global temperatures rise and the ocean bed becomes increasingly inhospitable. The prevalence of large-scale human activities like industrialisation which channels toxic waste into the ocean makes matters worse. Man-made disasters such as the Deepwater Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico occurred in 2010 due to an explosion in an oil rig – wreaking havoc on not only millions of marine species but coastal communities dependent on the oceans for their survival.
